August 26, 2015, 5:58 p.m. — DeMatha Head coach Elijah Brooks took the time to answer a few questions live from Westfield High School, where the Stags and the Bulldogs met for a pre-season scrimmage last Friday. DeMatha appeared to be in mid-season form during the exhibition, as they look to three-peat as Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) champions this season.
“Everyone just understands what it takes to be successful at DeMatha,” Brooks said, “the preparation and hard work that goes into it, and we’re just excited to get ready for another year.”
Although Brooks hopes to take the season one game at a time and to not look ahead, he understands that his team is in the national spotlight and that the squad is loaded with talent this year on both sides of the ball, especially among the senior class. The Stags will be led by a slew of seniors, including wide receivers Tino Ellis and D.J. Turner, defensive lineman Shane Simmons, running back Lorenzo Harrison and offensive lineman Terrance Davis.
“To be honest, we just have an outstanding class of senior leaders,” Brooks said, “[…] this season is going to be won or lost on our senior class.”
