August 26, 2015, 5:31 p.m. — According to Brandon Parker of the Washington Post, reporting live from the pre-season scrimmage between the DeMatha Stags and the Westfield Bulldogs last Friday, the Stags are the favorite again in the WCAC, a conference loaded with talent. They are looking for their third consecutive WCAC title and are returning a slew of skilled players on both sides of the ball. The notable returning players on the squad are wide receivers Tino Ellis and D.J. Turner, both Maryland recruits, defensive lineman Shane Simmons (Penn State), running backs Anthony McFarland and Lorenzo Harrison (Maryland), and offensive lineman Terrance Davis.

The Stags’ main competitor every year is Good Counsel. The Falcons have a standout senior linebacker in Keandre Jones, who has committed to Maryland. Beyond those two programs, the last two remaining playoff spots are up in the air. The most likely team to grab one of those spots is St. John’s, another talented squad, primarily on the defensive side of the ball. They have two stud senior defenders in defensive lineman Terrell Hall and linebacker Aaron Hansford. Another potential contender, Carroll, has two notable senior offensive linemen in Jauan Williams and Richard Merritt.
