August 26, 2015, 6:06 p.m. — Westfield Head coach Kyle Simmons took the time to answer a few questions live from the Bulldogs’ football stadium, where they hosted the DeMatha Stags for a pre-season scrimmage last Friday. While the Stags appeared to be in mid-season form, the Bulldogs showed signs of talent but with some work to be done to get ready for the regular season.

According to Simmons, the returning players have not gotten over their heartbreaking loss in last year’s region finals to Centreville, 21-17. They have used this as motivation throughout the off-season to get back to that point, and perhaps beyond.

“We talk a lot about being at our best come playoff time,” Simmons said, “and we’re going to continue to do that. We want to be playing in December.”

The Bulldogs will be led offensively by senior quarterback Tyler Scanlon and defensively by senior linebacker Jack Clancy. Scanlon is a two-sport star as he shines on the basketball court as well. Simmons encourages his players to play other sports in the winter and spring months, to be active in the weight room and to eat properly year-round.
