August 26, 2015, 5:17 p.m. — According to Eric Goldwein of the Washington Post, Montgomery County football starts with two-time defending 4A state champions Northwest. Although they lose a lot this season, they return the heart of the offense in senior quarterback Mark Pierce, who was under center for both title runs. The major challenger this season will be Quince Orchard, the only team to beat the Jaguars last year. Other potential challengers will be Paint Branch, Clarksburg, Sherwood and Blair. Sherwood’s offense is highlighted by senior wide receiver and West Virginia commit Marcus Simms. Paint Branch has a star of their own in senior linebacker Jordan Hill.
At the 3A level, Demascus remains the team to watch after reaching the state finals last season and nearly taking home the title. They will be going for their first championship since 2007 and will be led by senior running back Jake Funk, who is also an outstanding defensive back.
