August 26, 2015, 4:55 p.m. — According to Brandon Parker of the Washington Post, reporting live from Westfield High School , the Bulldogs are the team to watch in this region of Virginia. The programs to keep an eye out for in addition to Westfield are Hylton and Lake Braddock. Both Bulldogs, Westfield and Hylton, are perennial powers but have suffered earlier playoff exits than expected in recent years. Westfield is coming off a heartbreaking loss in last year’s region final to Centreville, but the Wildcats are not expected to repeat.
Westfield will be led on offense by senior quarterback Tyler Scanlon and on defense by senior linebacker Jack Clancy. Hylton’s high-powered offense will be led by sophomore running back Ricky Slade. Lake Braddock also has a high-powered offense returning lots of talent, namely senior quarterback Kyle Edwards.
Parker also identifies several of the key players to watch in the region beyond Edwards and Slade, including Battlefield senior wide receiver Zac Kerxton, Forest Park senior wide receiver Eric Kumah, a Virginia Tech recruit, Woodbridge senior defensive lineman Kyree Campbell, a UNC recruit, and Centreville senior defensive lineman Christian Brooks.
