April 10, 2016 — This upcoming fall, Danny Krug will say goodbye to the competitive sports field and begin his college experience at the University of Virginia. Krug made the tough decision to pursue an education at a highly regarded institution and not a career in NCAA athletics.
For the past four years, Krug has been a part of both the boys’ basketball and boys’ lacrosse program at Robinson Secondary School. His sophomore year he was pulled up to the lacrosse varsity team; that year the team won their first state championship in seven years. In 2015, his team would accomplish the same feat becoming back-to-back champions.
That junior year was when Krug also got pulled up to varsity for basketball in the winter season. In addition to playing on the golf team, Krug has kept himself busy in the fall, winter, and spring.
“The demand is pretty high. I’ve never really had a time where I don’t have practice or a game after school,” Krug said. “It was definitely more difficult in the earlier years when the work load of school was high. It’s also physically demanding, all the hours put in for practice, but I love being part of a team.”

Despite the hours, tears, and sweat, his mind has been made up. Krug has no intention of pursuing lacrosse or basketball in college but instead made the best decision for his education.
“Not only has he balanced playing golf, basketball, and lacrosse, but he’s done it all while maintaining a 4+ GPA,” lacrosse Coach Matt Curran said. “Danny is an exceptional young man and balance is actually a trait that really defines who he is.”
Playing multiple sports in the past decade, Krug by any means is far from calling it quits. At Virginia, his mother expects that he will be actively involved in intramural and club sports. If she were to guess, ultimate frisbee would be the sport that he will be attracted to.
“[Krug] likes the challenge of doing something different. He liked the complexity of balancing each sport and the variety that comes with that,” Kathy Krug said. “He will bring that variety to college.”
Before he gets to Virginia he has one goal he wants to accomplish first: win states.
Krug wants to go out on top while at Robinson. For him it would be a great way to not only send him off as a champion with the Robinson program but send him off as a champion in perhaps his final season of lacrosse.
“After my basketball season ended it really hit me that this was my last go around. It made me want to work as hard as I could to do well in lacrosse,” Krug said. “My personal goal for lacrosse, and I’m sure is the goal of the whole team, is to go out on top.”
The Rams will have the chance to do that in the upcoming months. The team so far is 7-1 on the season, looking to already add to Robinson’s prolific history in the sport.
