September 16, 2015, 10:12 p.m. — All-Met senior point guard Alani Moore has bounced around among Metro high schools, but he has solidified his next institution after committing to play basketball for the Temple Owls. Moore had narrowed his decision down to four schools, Georgia Tech, Seton Hall, Temple and UMass, following a strong summer on the AAU circuit as a member of the D.C. Premier.

Moore took his official visit to Temple on Aug. 28 and instantly felt at home, compelling him to cancel his visit to Seton Hall scheduled for the next week, as first reported by Brandon Parker of the Washington Post. Instead, he returned to Temple and watched the Owls’ football team take on Penn State. Moore then made his commitment this past Sunday to Head coach Fran Dunphy during a home visit.

“I have a great connection with Coach Dunphy,” Moore said, “We correspond with each other and have great talks about basketball.”

According to Moore, he has had an overwhelmingly positive reception from the Temple organization and thinks he will make a great fit on the roster, which already includes two players from the D.C. metro region.

“They accepted me into the family with such a warm welcoming from the team, coaches and the entire university,” Moore said.

Moore spent his first two years of high school with DeMatha as a member of the Stags basketball program. However, he transferred to Montrose Christian in Rockville, Md for his junior season, where he blossomed into an All-Met performer. Moore has moved on to a third school as he will be finishing his prep career with Friendship Collegiate in the District, where he is reunited with Bryan Bartley, who coached Moore at Montrose.

“It has been difficult but good changes,” Moore said, “because I’ve been able to see a lot of different venues, kids and two different coaches; both taught me a lot of knowledge on and off the court.”

The 5-foot-9 guard is perhaps undersized, but makes up for it with quickness and ball-handling. He has the ability to get his teammates involved through dribble penetration but can also get to the rim and finish on his own. Moore averaged 17.4 points last season with the Mustangs, earning him a slot on the All-Met first-team. He is rated as a three-star recruit according to Scout.com.

Moore hopes to improve his skills as well as his leadership qualities during his final high school season, and is happy to now return his attention to the court.

“I’m now focused on bettering myself for the next level at Temple,” Moore said. “It was a long process but I’m glad that it is over.”
