August 26, 2015, 5:10 p.m. — According to Brandon Parker of the Washington Post, there is a “power four” in Loudoun County with Briar Woods, Broad Run, Stone Bridge and Tuscarora. All four programs have a history of success, and are now together in the new Conference 14. Although Tuscarora hasn’t been around as long as the other programs, they were the Virginia 5A state runner-up last season.
Each of the “power four” has players to watch for the upcoming season. One of the top players to note is senior tight end Mark Birmingham of Briar Woods, who has committed to play for Duke. Another significant player in the county is Stone Bridge’s senior offensive lineman Andrew Vastardis, who will be helping protect quarterback Joe Thomspson, a Charlotte commit and son of Head Coach Mickey Thompson. Broad Run’s senior defensive back/wide receiver Chris Moore will be staying in the Commonwealth as he has committed to Virginia. Lastly, Tuscarora’s offense will be led by senior quarterback Daniel Smith, who will shoulder the offensive load after the graduation of 2014 All-Met Player of the Year Noah Reimers.
Meanwhile, the smaller Loudoun County schools are mostly grouped in Conference 21A and B. One notable program is Woodgrove, who is led by senior running back Charlie Clewis.
